Listed on the Illinois Breastfeeding Events & Activities page are various breastfeeding training opportunities.  Trainings are developed and intended for WIC program staff.  Trainings sponsored and hosted by IDHS are free.  A few trainings are available to community partners (hospital staff, early Head Start, Child Care, Doula, physician offices, breastfeeding advocates and lactation consultants) as space allows and as indicated.

 All trainings require advance registration, completion of any required forms and confirmations.

FOR IL WIC Staff Only: USDA WIC Breastfeeding Curriculum Training (L2-L4)

This curriculum is designed to build competencies among all levels of WIC staff in breastfeeding promotion and support strategies in the WIC Program. It relies on recent science, as well as best practices adopted by State and local WIC agencies across the country.  The curriculum has four (4) learning tiers. Each level builds on one another to address breastfeeding competencies based on role and responsibilities, including training for the local agency WIC Designated Breastfeeding Expert. 

The Tiered Levels Include:

 Level 1:

All WIC staff, including support staff (complete on CHTC website prior to attending L2-L4) https://www.springfieldul.org/event-type/illinois-wic-breastfeeding-curriculum-level-1

Level 2:

Competent Professional Authorities (CPA), Designated Breastfeeding Experts (DBE),  Peer Counselors, and other WIC staff who provide basic breastfeeding support to participants.

Level 3:

CPAs, DBEs, Breastfeeding Coordinators

Level 4:

WIC Designated Breastfeeding Experts
