United Way of Central Illinois
Wee Grow is a program that supports working caregivers and those enrolled in school by providing care before and after Head Start hours, including summer months when traditional Head Start is not in session. Services are offered at our Cook Street site, available from 6:45am-8:45am and 3:30pm-5:30pm. Support is available to those who qualify through Child Care Connection. The Wee Grow program continues the quality of care provided by the Head Start and Early Head Start programs at the Cook Site.
Thank You United Way!
This year, the Wee Grow program received $50,000 from United Way. Of that, $30,000 provides funding for scholarships to help caregivers with child care costs. During August and September, the program has helped at least 28 caregivers, with hopes to assist an average of 14 each month. The remaining $20,000 was used to purchase 3 new classroom computers and 9 tablets for the four classrooms at the site.
Through United Way’s partnership with "Dolly Parton's Imagination Library," children ages birth to five in Sangamon County receive a free book each month delivered to their homes. Currently, over 600,000 children are enrolled in this program across the USA, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
