The Springfield Urban League’s Head Start students were recently treated to a vibrant and unforgettable cultural experience—a live performance of “The Hare’s Revenge”, an African folktale brought to life through music, movement, and interactive storytelling. The performance was more than just entertainment; it offered a powerful lesson that forgiveness holds more strength than revenge.

The children were captivated from the moment the curtain rose. Laughter echoed through the room as they followed the tale’s spirited characters, and their eyes lit up when invited to become part of the story themselves. It was a day of joy, learning, and discovery that will stay with them long after the final bow.

Opportunities like this underscore the importance of exposing our children to the arts and diverse cultural narratives from an early age. These experiences expand their worldviews, nurture creativity, and help build empathy—all critical components of a well-rounded education. When children engage with live storytelling and performances, they gain more than just knowledge; they gain confidence, connection, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

This enriching event was made possible through the generous support of PNC Bank and the UIS Performing Arts Center, two partners deeply committed to the power of early childhood education. The experience was part of the PNC Grow Up Great initiative, which continues to open doors for young learners through arts, culture, and hands-on opportunities.

We are especially grateful to the creative team at the UIS Performing Arts Center for their dedication to inspiring young minds. Their passion and talent turned a traditional folktale into a lively, educational journey the children won’t soon forget.

Thank you to all who made this day so special. It’s moments like these that help shape bright futures.
