We seek to build a movement that fights for political empowerment, economic justice and the cultural dignity of the African-American community, especially the Black working class.

African Americans in Philanthropy and others have partnered to create a statewide Black-led and

Black-focused advocacy organization called the Illinois Black Advocacy Initiative. Following two

years of outreach and analysis, the IBAI Steering Committee is ready to hire a Founding Director

to lead the development of the organization and to facilitate the creation of a common agenda.The Illinois Black Advocacy Initiative seeks a visionary and dedicated Founding Director to support the establishment of an intersectional1 statewide organization focused on advancing advocacy and building an agenda for Black communities. The Founding Director will help to structure a contemporary collaboration dedicated to racial equity, social justice, and systemic and structural change for the political, social, and economic empowerment of Black people and communities in Illinois.

Summary: The Springfield Urban League's AmeriCorps Program is designed to engage AmeriCorps members in direct service and capacity-building to address unmet needs. Activities may include supervising, tutoring and mentoring youth, assisting disaster victims, helping with community gardens, assisting with the organization of community programs (i.e. job preparedness, healthy lifestyles, financial literacy, etc.) and also mobilize community volunteers to strengthen the capacity of the organizations where they serve.

Summary:  Under general supervision, the Facilities Specialist is responsible for performing internal and external repairs, preventive maintenance work, and a wide variety of repairs to building and facility equipment, fixtures and systems that support the cleanliness and security of affiliate facilities. This would include but is not limited to heating and cooling, roofing, plumbing, electrical, deep cleaning, painting and equipment repair. Typically performs work in several of the common maintenance trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, and/or machine & equipment repair.

Summary: The Family Resource Advocate is responsible for providing quality, comprehensive child/family support services to preschoolers and their families; providing support, training and case management to assist parents in meeting the needs of their children and enhancing parents' role as the primary influence on their child's education and development and supporting parents in increasing their economic stability; determining eligibility for program, enrolling families in program, enlisting parental involvement in child educational programs; working with parents in identifying and achieving goals; accessing support services; creating training programs; and facilitating positive parent, school and student relationships.

Workforce Development

The position of Empowerment Caseworker regardless of race, creed or disability

has the responsibility of working closely with the Workforce Development Division. This

position will serve clients/mentees from the community, in the Central Illinois and surrounding

areas. The Empowerment Caseworker will provide instruction and guidance for clients/mentees

in the following areas, but not limited to: financial training, income support, employment

coaching, and civic engagement.
