National Urban League-DigiPen Institute of Technology Scholarship

 

Overview

DigiPen Institute of Technology is pleased to offer a unique scholarship opportunity for high school graduates who have had a direct affiliation with an Urban League affiliate for at least one year.  These students are eligible to apply for a full, four-year scholarship to attend DigiPen Institute of Technology’s Bachelor of Science in Real Time Interactive Simulation degree program.  This degree is ideal for those who wish to pursue a serious career path in the video game industry as a programmer.  Valued at approximately $15,000/year, this tuition-waiver scholarship is an incredible opportunity for the successful candidate to study at one of the premiere colleges in the world that focuses on the field of digital interactive entertainment technology.

Given the rigor of the program, potential scholarship applicants will need to evaluate how prepared they are academically to complete this program, particularly in the area of mathematics and physics.  Please contact DigiPen to receive course catalog or visit http://www.digipen.edu for more details.

While this scholarship is open to any high school graduate who has an affiliation with the Urban League, applicants who have participated in any DigiPen high school outreach programs offered though Urban League affiliates, such as the DigiPen ProjectFUN Game Programming Workshop and/or DigiPen ProjectFUN Technology Academy will be given priority. 

Application

 To apply, applicants must meet the following conditions:

1.   Must submit completed standard DigiPen Application documents.  Please contact DigiPen to receive application package.

2.   Must meet the standard academic prerequisites for acceptance to DigiPen Institute of Technology:

a.    Completed Grade 12 or equivalent with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.

b.    Earned a “B” average or 3.0 GPA in mathematics courses including: Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II/Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus (at a minimum), plus Calculus/CP Calculus if possible.

c.    Other courses that will be considered including Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science.

3.   Must submit an essay of 1000-1500 words detailing the student’s interest in DigiPen Institute of Technology, and how they feel they have prepared themselves for a career in the video game industry.  Applicants should consider discussing research done on a distinctive contribution to the industry.  Evaluation of the essay will be based heavily on evidence of a high degree of motivation toward a career in the industry.

4.    Must provide a minimum of two letters of reference from people able to judge the students motivation and academic qualifications.

5.   Must provide a reference letter from an administrator of the local Urban League affiliate that attests to the character of the applicant as well as verifying the length of time the applicant has been associated with the affiliate.

6.    Must be available for an in-person or telephone interview.

7.    Must be a U.S. citizen or have permanent resident status.

 Deadline:

8.      Scholarship applications must be submitted no later than July 1st of the academic year the applicant wishes to enter DigiPen. 

 Conditions

Selection of Scholarship winners is at the sole discretion of DigiPen Institute of Technology.  Recipients of the Scholarship will be subject to the following conditions:

1.    Must enroll in the Bachelor of Science in Real Time Interactive Simulation degree program in the year that the Scholarship is awarded.  The tuition fee is waived as long as Recipient takes a minimum of twelve-credit load during the Fall and Winter semesters in each of the four academic years, and maintains a 3.5 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year.  Failure to meet these requirements will result in the loss of the Scholarship.

2.    This Scholarship has no cash value and cannot be exchanged for cash.  This is a tuition-waiver scholarship only, and Recipient is responsible to pay for any other fees, materials and costs associated with being a matriculated student at DigiPen Institute of Technology.

3.    The Scholarship is only valid during the time period specified above.  If Recipient withdraws from any classes at any time, there is no tuition refund available.

4.    Recipient agrees to abide by all the rules and regulations of DigiPen Institute of Technology, and execute the DigiPen Institute of Technology Student Agreement.  Violation of the rules and regulations of DigiPen Institute of Technology will result in a loss of your Scholarship and/or being expelled from DigiPen Institute of Technology without recourse.
