WIC Frontline Cornerstone Training

Target Audience State and local agency personnel working in the support staff capacity with the Illinois WIC Program.

Class Times Day 1: 10:00 am - 4:30 pm
Day 2: 9:00 am - 4:30 pm
Description This training has been designed to address the needs of those, new and experienced, who are involved in the daily support of the WIC program. This training requires completion of three web based modules. General topics to be covered include: Customer Service, Cultural Competence, Civil Rights, Breastfeeding Support, Interviewing Techniques, Dealing with Difficult Participants, WIC policies for income determination, Participant eligibility, and Scheduling. Training also provides a “hands-on” approach to the WIC functions within the Cornerstone software system including: client enrollment, referring and scheduling clients, and food instrument issuance. Performance Objectives Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Identify the mission/goal of the WIC Program
  • State 5 examples of good customer service practices
  • Identify 3 practices for maintaining cultural competency
  • Describe ways to deal with a difficult participant
  • State 2-3 outreach activities to locate clients
  • Understand the eligibility requirements for the WIC Program
  • Demonstrate proficiency in enrolling a new client on the Cornerstone system
  • Schedule clients for appropriate education contacts
