AmeriCorps

Summary: The Springfield Urban League's AmeriCorps Program is designed to engage AmeriCorps members in direct service and capacity-building to address unmet needs. Activities may include supervising, tutoring and mentoring youth, assisting disaster victims, helping with community gardens, assisting with the organization of community programs (i.e. job preparedness, healthy lifestyles, financial literacy, etc.) and also mobilize community volunteers to strengthen the capacity of the organizations where they serve.

Head Start

Summary:The Head Start Home Visitor regardless of race, creed, or disability is primarily responsible for providing opportunities for parents to increase their knowledge of early childhood growth and development of the total child, and how to instruct their children in the home environment and preparing them for kindergarten. The HS Home Visitor will also be responsible for empowering parents to meet various social services, health, nutritional, and educational needs in the family; and for providing group socialization opportunities for all children and families. will provide a creative atmosphere for the growth and development of the total child.

Health Initiatives

These individuals will be identifying locations where trained Springfield Urban League (SUL) IPC staff can conduct outreach and enrollment activities. H.I. Ambassadors will receive minimal training, equipping them with basic knowledge of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and how to refer interested individuals to the SUL for counseling and enrollment support.

Male Involvement Program

The position of Outreach Worker regardless of race, creed or disability has the responsibility of working closely with the Workforce & Economic Empowerment Division implementing the CeaseFire model. Ceasefire is a coordinated strategy to address shootings in Springfield. Skilled Outreach Workers are a key ingredient to the success of this initiative and are instrumental in helping to facilitate positive behavior change amongst high-risk individuals and groups. To stop shootings by doing all that is required individually and in a team to prevent all shootings in the neighborhood assigned is the primary focus.

In coordination with the Director of Workforce Empowerment and Division Coordinator(s), provide Business Services to local employers and assist clients in developing, implementing, and monitoring an employment plan that leads to self-sufficiency. Develop and maintain relationships with local businesses, industry representatives and training agencies that lead to client job placement. Coordinate, design and implement outreach activities. Partner with local agencies in identifying and implementing service plans that decrease duplication of services.

Provide Life Skill, Family, Money Management related training as needed throughout the agency service areas. Pre-Apprenticeship program integrates academic education with hands-on training(s) in construction sites and classroom settings that provide a rich disciplined and transformative learning environment. The Program Trainer will work with Case Managers, Workforce Specialists, academic teachers, professionals and other team members in a collaborative effort to help participants develop personal skills and overcome barriers as they strive to define and prepare to achieve their career goals.
